Socket 478 is a type of CPU socket used by Intel for its Pentium 4 and Celeron processors. It was introduced in 2000 and eventually phased out in favor of newer socket types like LGA 775.
Socket 478 supports processors with speeds ranging from 1.3 GHz to 3.4 GHz and uses a 478-pin design. It utilizes a PGA (Pin Grid Array) configuration where the pins are located on the underside of the processor and fit into corresponding holes on the socket.
This socket type was popular during the early 2000s and was used in many desktop computers and laptops. It was eventually replaced by newer socket types as technology advanced and processors became more powerful.
